Crafting Memorable Whisky Moments

James Buntin is one of the most respected and versatile figures in the world of whisky. Known globally as The Whisky Ambassador, James has not only shaped the way whisky is experienced and understood, he also holds the extraordinary distinction of being the only individual to have officially represented whisky from Scotland, Ireland, America, and Japan. James is now focusing on whisky from his home country of Australia, taking his passion for storytelling and education into the world of Australian single malt whisky,

James’ whisky journey began in his native Scotland, where he developed a reverence for the spirit that would become his life’s calling. His early years in hospitality laid the foundation for what would evolve into a storied career—managing five-star hotels and as a licensee of pubs and whisky bars, responsible for guiding teams with the kind of leadership only forged through experience. However, it was his love for whisky, storytelling, and the connection that he builds with people that truly set him apart.

Over the years, James has worn many hats: educator, ambassador, mentor, judge, and host. As an official Whisky Ambassador for some of the world’s most iconic brands—including Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, and the House of Suntory (home to Yamazaki, Hakushu, Chita, Hibiki, and Toki)—he has become synonymous with excellence, authenticity, and dedication. His reach extends beyond any single label, embodying the heart and soul of whisky across borders and traditions.

From the soft elegance of Irish whiskey to the bold character of American bourbon, from the refined craftsmanship of Japanese whisky to the complex heritage of Scotch, James has walked the distilleries, worked with the master blenders, and carried these stories to audiences around the globe. His ability to translate the spirit in the glass into a personal, emotional experience has made him a sought-after presenter and storyteller across continents.
